Montclair Board of Education

Who Am I?

My name is Jada N. Roman, and I want to be your next Montclair Board of Education Member. I have been a resident of Montclair since 2007, raising two young men who have and are still enrolled in the Montclair Public Schools.

I am a wife, mom, pet parent, and, like most people, a multitasker. I am also a chef, Uber driver, friend, confidante, nurse, caregiver, and community member.

I have held many roles within Montclair. PTA Vice President, President, committee chair, and SEPAC leader. Many of my friends and family would title me the Community Connector. I work tirelessly to help people when needed, listen to them expressing their concerns, and connect them with another resident or resource(s) where possible. I try hard to help people when they need it, listen, and where I can connect them with another resident or resource.

Coming from a family of educators, I know firsthand how important education plays in all aspects of our lives. I know how hard good teachers and staff work. Being there for them is as important as being present for the kids.

I understand the challenges that parents face when navigating the school system to ensure their child's support. It can be frustrating, disheartening, and crushing. I have personally experienced this when I had to stop working outside the home to assist my youngest in finding and solidifying support for a full educational experience. I had to learn laws and regulations, build relationships, and navigate acronyms and language that were once completely foreign to me.

Inclusion, Community, Transparency, Communication

These principles are not mere clichés to me. I firmly believe that each resident within our community deserves equitable access to our educational system. It is imperative for administrative leaders and board members to demonstrate transparency in their decisions, clarity and precision in their communication, and uphold a standard of respect.

Every parent or caregiver should have easily accessible information regarding our school district, encompassing services, operations ranging from budget allocations to ongoing projects, curriculum frameworks, areas requiring improvement, and exemplary practices.

Rather than merely highlighting issues at public forums, I am compelled to take a proactive stance and aspire to enact the aforementioned ideals through my prospective role as a board member.

Why am I running?

What are my beliefs?

Inclusion in all forms: services, community involvement, sharing, and implementation of best practices.

Communication: How we speak to our community and our staff in providing essential information that should be readily accessible to them.

Curriculum: Well-vetted programming that allows for staff and student growth and modifications. One that all schools can utilize to set universal standards and begin to address our growing achievement gap.

Transparency: This speaks for itself. We must begin to work as a cohesive group and not in silos and behind closed doors.
